How secure should your home be?

Home security systems. Whether you own or rent, you want to be safe in your home. If you want to invest in a home security system, you have many options. From the standard ADT type of system to installing monitors that allow you to keep an eye on your home from your smartphone. There are also motion sensors that can turn on lights and issue an alert as well as a fake TV burglar deterrent simulator. It simulates the light of a 40″ HDTV. These are just a few examples.

Some folks that don’t opt for the extra security with these systems, simply abide by smart old fashioned thinking. A dog is one way to feel safe in your home. Dogs of all shapes and sizes are known to be excellent deterrents to home invasion situations. Even small dogs can bark, alerting their masters. Large dogs are quite intimidating. There is no need to train a guard dog or to encourage a dog’s aggression to make them vicious protectors. For the most part, dogs that prevent robberies do not attack the robbers. They only bark loudly, startling the burglar enough to flee. Another way is to make sure that your doors and windows are sturdy and secure. A home security system might not do much good if your back door can be forced open very easily. Similarly, your windows can be vulnerable if they face a desolate area like a forest or field. Consider installing security doors in place of regular doors or reinforcing your windows with bars if you are worried about a break-in. Also remember to keep track of your keys! Make sure that all the copies of your house keys are accounted for, and belong to people that you trust. Do not leave keys hidden near your door or under a potted plant. It is better that you leave the key with a neighbor. Just recently I saw an article about leaving your car keys on your night stand. If you suspect an intruder, hit the red alarm button on the fob which will emit a very loud noise! And, maybe one of the best unofficial security systems around is a good set of concerned; if not somewhat nosy, neighbors. You neighbors will be more likely to notice strangers trying to get into your property when they know you personally. Talk with your neighbors and get to know them. This is a good way to keep yourself safe and to have help nearby.
