So , you are moving AGAIN! Your friends and family tell you they will be out of town, have to work or will be undergoing important surgery. Hmmmmm……really? This reaction could be do to the fact that they were suckered into helping you numerous times and was rewarded with cold pizza and warm beer at the end of the day, (not to mention a sore back)! If you need the help of your friends and want to keep them as your friends, you have to think “give to get” and just remember…..payback is, well you know! Keep in mind, “hassle-free” as much as possible and “gratitude”!!

Here are some ways to get you started to make the moving process easier for you and your friends, (who you have suckered in again)!

Do: Fold boxes closed to save tape. Label every box with a coordinating room for easy drop-off. Use medium-size boxes. Experts say they are the best for simpler moves. You can use a couple of big boxes for bulky but lighter items such as comforters and towels. Also, a nice gesture is to pay for gas for every driver. Then go further, give them a gas card as a token of appreciation.

Don’t: Pack a few big boxes with a ton of heavy stuff. You may end up with fewer boxes, but those boxes will be nearly impossible to carry. Why do this to people you purportedly like? Be careful not to overload cars with boxes. Avoid a four-car pileup because everyone in your convoy was attempting to check their rearview mirror and seeing only a tiny crack between stacks of boxes. And don’t keep promising pizza at the end of the day, like some kind of pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. This is kind of cheesy and you might end up with a mutiny on your hands by 2 p.m.!

It’s extremely necessary to provide good snacks and plenty of drinks. Make sure to have plenty of paper plates, plastic utensils, napkins, and cups on hand. Deliver them some ice-cold beer, strong mojitos, Starbucks Frappuccinos, or whatever floats your (and their) boat. Or, if you are all able to be seen in public, take everyone out for a meal at a local eatery! Deliver a grateful toast, sit back, and know that you will most likely be called on to do the same thing  for them at any given time!
