It’s late March and things have begun warming up in the Lowcountry, Charleston area of South Carolina! The changing of the seasons can be a delight to many, and we at CREC Property Management want to ensure you are adequately prepared for weather changes when it comes to the integrity of your property. Here are some tips to prepare for warmer weather in Charleston, South Carolina!

Rain and Flooding

You know the saying April showers brings May flowers? Spring is notorious for lots of rain! Due to Charleston being at sea level, this means rain can sometimes be a nuisance when it comes to flooding. We recommend keeping up to date with weather alerts and potential threats by downloading the FEMA app to receive weather updates and alerts in your area.

Cleaning Your Gutters

Cleaning your gutters is never a particularly fun activity, yet this proactive habit keeps water run-off away from your home and helps prevent flooding. Personally, we at CREC would rather spend a few hours getting the gunk out of gutters compared to the risk of a flood!

Ensure Your AC is Working Well

There is nothing worse than an unexpected broken air conditioner, especially once you begin getting into the thick of the heat and humidity in the Lowcountry! Ensure filters are clean and coils are clear to prevent air conditioning disasters when you need it most.

Check Roof for Any Cracks, Breaks, or Spots for Leaks

If you’ve been suspicious of minor leaks or soft spots on your ceiling, it may be worth taking a closer look before it turns into a significant problem! Any maintenance issue of this sort is never fun to deal with, which is why our team of professionals is here to help and be of assistance to you.

Collect Fallen Debris in the Yard

Luckily since Lowcountry winters are pretty mild, you likely got away with a fairly simple winter (cheers to that!). However, collecting whatever fallen debris may have ended up in your yard is helpful when it comes to entering warmer weather and doing Spring cleaning in general. This is especially true when it comes to potentially flooding and having miscellaneous debris floating around. Preventative maintenance is best practice!

Mentally Prepare Yourself for Bugs That Will Eventually Come

A Lowcountry checklist for warm weather would not be complete without mention of everyone’s least favorite nuisance: bugs. Palmetto bugs make our skin crawl too, which is why we are here to assist when there are issues, yet having preventative measures on hand such as bug spray or bug aerosols can help you in a moment of panic (we understand!).

Overall, CREC Property Management appreciates our tenants and do everything we can to ensure they are happy. If any of these issues arise, rest assured that we will be there to help you every step of the way. Please feel free to contact us at any time via phone (843) 574-9100 or email [email protected].
